Understanding the Good Ratio and Bad Ratio

To nail the perfect matcha every single time, ratio is everything.
That silky, creamy, aesthetic matcha + milk layer you see all over your feed? Yep, it all comes down to getting the balance right. We’ll break down the GOOD vs. BAD ratios in the simplest way so you can level up your daily matcha ritual and get that magic boost in your day.

Good Ratio

Good Ratio

  • - 3–4g of matcha (depending on how bold you want it)
  • - 50–60ml hot water (not boiling, around 70–80°C)
  • - 100–120ml of your preferred base (milk, sparkling water, coconut water, or another beverage of your choice)

Our spoon = 2g (level). So quick math: 2 scoops = 4g. If you want 3 grams, use 1 heaping spoonful.

If you’re just starting out, begin with 2g and build your way up. Everyone’s taste buds are different, but staying within this range gives you that beautiful green contrast, a rich matcha flavor, and a smooth, satisfying finish with any base you prefer.

Bad Ratio (Example)

Bad Ratio (Example)

  • - 1g of matcha
  • - 70ml hot water
  • - 150ml of your preferred base

Here’s what happens

Less matcha + more water + extra base = a watery base

The matcha flavor disappears, leaving you with something flat and far from the dreamy café vibes you’re aiming for.

Here’s what happens

Even with the quick comparison below, it’s clear visually (and in flavor) just how important the right ratio is for that ultimate matcha moment.

Good Ratio

Bad Ratio

Trust us and get the ratio right. Once you nail the ratio, the balance transforms matcha from a simple drink into a full experience.
