Uji Hikari from Kyoto

Pure and beautifully refined, this Uji Hikari from Ujitawara, Kyoto, opens with savory notes reminiscent of wakame and pistachio, balanced by the gentle sweetness of snap peas. Once whisked, the sweetness becomes softer and rounded, while subtle floral notes gradually reveal themselves.

Remarkably balanced with virtually no bitterness or astringency, this matcha is equally suited to usucha and koicha, allowing the pure character of the cultivar to be appreciated in either preparation.

Cultivated by Tomohiro-san, Uji Hikari is one of Uji's signature tea cultivars. Selected by the Kyoto Prefectural Tea Research Institute from a native Uji tea plant for producing both tencha and gyokuro, Japan’s highest-grade shaded green tea.
